Mstyslav Chernov is an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Pulitzer Prize-winning filmmaker, war correspondent, and novelist. His directorial work has been honoured by the Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) marking a rare crossover of in directing, writing, and visual storytelling.

A two-time winner at the Sundance Film Festival, Chernov’s cinematic contributions have further earned the Cinema Eye Honors, the IDA Documentary Awards, the Gotham Award, and the Critics' Choice Documentary Award.

Drawing on over a decade of experience as a journalist for the Associated Press, Chernov’s filmmaking is rooted in his documentation of global crises. His field work includes the Revolution of Dignity, the Russian invasion in Ukraine, European migration crisis, the Syrian civil war, and the Battle of Mosul in Iraq. He has also reported from Libya, Afghanistan, Gaza, and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Chernov is the President of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and is a member of Ukrainian PEN.
